Wilfried Laforge (b. 1982) is a French art theorist and advisor. He holds a PhD in Art Sciences from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, where he specialized in aesthetics. In parallel, Wilfried joined Vrin Editions in 2018 as Senior Acquisition Editor, where he co-founded the REC (Research in Contemporary Aesthetics) series to promote groundbreaking theoretical essays and new translations. In 2023, he founded Enceladus Press—distributed by The MIT Press—and currently serves as its CEO. Based in Paris and New York City, Enceladus Press publishes works that explore a philosophy of art rooted in the materiality of artistic practice and artists’ own voices. The press will soon release Art-Oriented Philosophy, a landmark investigation into the relationship between artists and philosophical thought, based on interviews with leading contemporary artists. Enceladus Press also extends its publishing vision beyond books to podcasts, audiobooks, recorded lectures, and other media formats.Wilfried is the author of numerous essays on art theory (À la frontière des arts, L’Écho du réel) and has organized major international conferences on contemporary art in partnership with prestigious institutions.
His academic career has included visiting fellowships and collaborations with La Sorbonne (Research Associate since 2012), Columbia University, New York University, and other leading centers for art research. His current book project proposes a new framework for understanding contemporary art through the philosophy of Theodor W. Adorno.Wilfried’s singular approach to art consulting is grounded in his deep knowledge of the contemporary art world—both theoretical and practical—enriched by continuous research in galleries and artists’ studios, and informed by his close attention to emerging artistic evolutions. Since the early 2000s, he has built a vast and trusted international network across the art world.
